Story: Berlin Festival 2011 (unlikeberlin)
Berlin Festival transcends genres like never before. When the city congregates
at Tempelhof Airport and Arena Berlin on 9th September, there will be more
than just a clash of mainstream and subculture; going head-to-head will be pop
to hip hop to dubstep, from psychedelic to tech house to indie, from noise to
post-punk to avant-garde. The festival truly is a mash-up of epic proportions.
Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All have unfortunately dropped off the roster
due to a court summons state side, but will be replaced by up and coming
German indie hip hop group Kraftklub, while the grandmaster of French electro,
Mr. Oizo, also provides pulsing beats galore.
The emphasis this year is on established heroes and icons as well as
sensational newcomers. Get set for the likes of Andrea Kellerman a.k.a.
Firefox AK from Sweden who'll be bringing a bit of sweet Scandinavian
melancholia to the airport, along with Last Days of 1984 from Ireland, with
their experimental brand of noise rock.
Due to Berlin Festival having expanded to incorporate Club Xberg in 2011,
there's a lot more space and time to play with, meaning not only single acts
have a platform ...
Running the Czech Republic (ft)This advertisement for the Prague marathon - which I photographed in the
airport, this weekend - strikes me as having an unfortunate slogan. I know
that Czechs are not terribly happy with the their government. But a nation
that is still worried about national sovereignty, after rule from Berlin and
Moscow, might be a little more careful about how it words invitations to
tourists.
Chicago To Show Off German Roots During NATO Summit (cbs2chicago)German delegates who visit Chicago for the NATO summit this weekend will feel
very much at home in the city.
Plane slides off German runway, 1 slightly hurt (twincities)BERLIN--An airline says one of its planes, which was carrying 62 people, made
an emergency landing at Germany's Munich airport where it slid off the runway.
"A major airport for Berlin", or "From three make one!" At Berlin's changing history, it is not surprising that air transport not concentrated as in other cities on a hub, but distributed at three airports. After the reunification, it was however decided that the German capital Gets an airport, is worthy of her: a hub, which brings together the movements of Tegel, Tempelhof and Schoenefeld and developed into a hub between East and West.
Schönefeld should be expanded to the airport
international, short BER. The required closing of Tegel and Tempelhof was written in the operating licence of BER. Thus, the fear that the project of a large airport by the existence of two other, competing with him airports to failure is doomed, should be given out.
This plan was in 1996 and supported by judicial decisions. Resistance was formed against the planned closure of the emblematic airport in 2008: landed during the
blockade the so-called Raisin in Tempelhof and thereby ensured the supply of the closed city.
